Vanilla 1.1.5a is a product of Lussumo. More Information: Documentation, Community Support.
My dev site is up and running for those who are interested in peeking at the animal without installing it on their site:
Note that some features on the above site are disabled for security reasons: plugin screen, users screen, ability to post unfiltered html, and so on. Also, if you peek into the dev site, please be so kind to not change its url or the test user's password.
Please report any bug you spot on my dev site or on your own site in this thread.
Thanks!
Denis
@george: I'm uploading a new zip to fix this, thanks for highlighting the 404 issue!
D.
beta-5 is online
D.
nope, you add widgets as necessary.
there's going to be a beta-6 this evening, btw, I'm working on upgrading semiologic.com and fixing bugs as I find them.
D.
lol, I was wondering, recently what could possibly be causing the dev site to output pages in a minute. I've found the culprit upon trying the pages widget and the links widget on the same page:
Load: 7 queries - 0.158 seconds
Query: 11 queries - 0.180 seconds
Display: 257 queries - 22.264 seconds
woot! that is soooo retarded. :D
D.
@George: add a text widget, and maybe a tag cloud or the archives widget or the silo map widget, etc. in the 404 "sidebar".
D.
@Paul: regarding your upload issue, could it related to mod_security?
@All: I've just uploaded a beta-6. I've spend the entire day working on performance issues. related widgets, in particular, got a spectacular boost in speed.
D.
@Paul: btw, regarding Dreamhost, have you noticed the VPS functionality? Best I know, what they've set up is quite unique in the industry. I'm not aware of any other host that lets you choose the how large your VPS should be with a slider. :)
D.
mmm, I'm going to upload a beta-7 in a sec, the one I just uploaded doesn't autoinstall the semiologic theme on new site, and I've committed a few more WP 2.5 bug fixes.
D.
beta-7 is online. it restores the correct autoinstall, and includes all of the WP 2.5 bug fixes from trac, plus a couple more.
D.
@Paul: any odds your upload issue is related to any of the following?
likely mod_security related, then...
D.
I've just updated the beta, to beta-8. Changes since last update are numerous, but mostly of interest to those who are upgrading sites. Basically, I've been using backups from semiologic.com to weed out all sorts of bugs that remained in the upgrade scripts.
D.
@Keith: thanks for reporting it, I'll upload an update in a bit.
@Alan: I suspect the upload went wrong. can you try reinstalling from scratch, using the new bleeding edge zip after I uploading it in a bit?
D.
beta-9 is online. many fixes made it in this one. some wp bug fixes, many little things I've identified while working on semiologic.com, the 404 error handler works better still, and so do searches.
I've also added a completely rewritten Search Reloaded plugin, which is delivering results that are more relevant than ever.
D.
Denis,
Just upgraded to 5.5 about 3 hours ago. I'm seeing some Template weirdness. On the Home page, the Title is in a much smaller font and a different color. On any individual post page it shows up correctly.
Home: http://hypnosismarketingtips.com
Post page: http://hypnosismarketingtips.com/resources
I'm using the Color Block Blue by Techie Coach.
Thanks,
Craig
@ shokthx: should be fixed in beta-10.
personally, I mostly see the tag cloud widget as something a 404 page, e.g. www.semiologic.com/404-test/ (I've yet to enter any tags, but it's in there). in that location (the 404 error panel), it'll also show when a search returns nothing, e.g. www.semiologic.com?s=jwieojfew
another good usage for it could be as an inline widget in an archives page, e.g. www.semiologic.com/archives (it's not present, but it could be reasonably added)
in any event, it's one of the built-in WP widgets, and I'm a little nervous to try to override it in this version. you could readily add more of them you could readily download a tag clouds widget from the plugin database.
@E. J.: can you elaborate please, I'm not entirely sure what you mean. also, which browser are you using?
@Craig: good catch. fix coming right up
@Paul: use in a static page. here's what the silo map outputs: http://www.semiologic.com/site-map/. when I'll bother to enter a description, each item will have a few lines to say what it's about. the main difference with the pages widget is that this one uses the exclude option shared by other widgets.
beta-10 is online
@EJ: I'll look into it on Monday, as I was about to tackle a last task before taking a much needed WE.
D.
Vic,
Same problem with the latest beta?
Mike
@Vic: I'll release the fix today, thanks for bringing it up!
D.
With beta-10 I encountered these problems.
When trying to view a category and/tag page that has been retagged thru settings/permalinks, the page was broke (no sidebars) it would grind then list each post or tag a lot (40-50 times) with this error message at the bottom of the page.
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/.lahore/username/yourdomain.com/wp-includes/category.php on line 29
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/.lahore/username/yourdomain.com/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 274
When the category and tags were not renamed the same thing happened with these error messages
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/.lahore/username/yourdomain.com/wp-includes/functions.php on line 30
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/.lahore/username/yourdomain.com/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 274
When trying to use Now Reading the library page generated would come up 404.
These was no inline widget option available in the editor.
The rss feed listed just post titles and nothing else.
Still could not get the silo page widget (browse) to list any pages.
If it matters site is at dreamhost running php5.
the category/tag issue should be fixed, it's the same bug as Vic's. I suspect the feed issue is the same as well.
inline widgts -> it shows on the second line. the last button to the right on the first line will show the latter. I had to move it there to avoid bugs in IE6
silo page -> can you confirm you have any static pages on the site? sorry for asking, but... it works fine on my test sites... :-|
D.
the silo pages issue could also be cache related. try saving the sidebar where it's located to flush it.
D.
@Paul:
here's what things look like with the silo stub and thie silo map, once you've entered a title and a description for the widgets in "this page in widgets":
D.
I used the upgrade feature to upgrade from 5.5 beta 2 to 5.5 beta 10. I encountered the same issue as I have in the past where my browser tries to open a php file. I canceled that window and waited as suggested and then visited the site. I was told the database needed upgrading so I clicked the link to do so and it did update the database. However when visiting the back end, it still stated that I was running beta 2. I went ahead and manually installed beta 10 via ftp and it does read beta 10 in the back end now.
Side note, if this ever does work for me and I am sure it must work for others (that is letting the upgrade finish in spite of these errors), it would be nice to have a back end way to perform the clean up step after having derailed during the process. Deleting the tmp directory is time consuming when done using ftp, I imagine if performed in the cleanup step it is much faster.
Jeff
ps. I am just going to wait for the shell instructions for fast semio deployment :)
@Alan: I think I've found where the issue lied. I'm going to upload an update in a couple of minutes. Please proceed as follows to upgrade your site:
Of interest to all: I've also fixed the docs upgrader (it wasn't getting called on upgrades), and a couple of other things in this new beta. Also, I'll likely put an RC up tomorrow and ditch Sem 5.0 at the same time.
beta-11 is online
D.
@Paul:
The issue with the rss feed is browser related, works fine in IE but is just post titles in firefox.
There is no way to open up the bookmark me (spread the word) widget.
please try clearing the FF cache, feed caching is rather sticky, and according to this thread it might also fix the bookmark me isssue.
Doesnt seem like any of the seo/silo capabilities are working.
this is really odd, because they're working fine on semiologic.com.
I've just tested the silo pages to make sure. the silo map is working great (www.semiologic.com/site-map), as are the silo stubs (www.semiologic.com/software/). the two latter have no options: simply insert them as inline widgets in a static page.
can you whisper your site details, including FTP, so I can look into what may be happening?
Excerpts are not appearing.
that, I had noticed as well while testing searches. I'll get this fixed by this evening.
charsets on dreamhost...
I think you can safely leave it as is, but I must confess you have me wondering if it's not generating serialization errors -- and the latter could very well wreck seo options, silo options, theme options, and many more...
additionally, can you highlight to dreamhost that their WP install script is setting up sites with a utf-8 charset in the config file, but swedish-latin collated tables?
D.
beta-12 is on its way. it fixes the excerpts. I had added an excerpt fix to Mediacaster, which destroyed excerpts instead of fixing them. sorry about that... :-P
D.
eww, in this case that would be a WP bug, and a nasty one at that. plus, I suspect this ticket is related. hopefully, nothing with break on legacy sites when they release 2.5.1... :-|
D.
beta-12 is up for grabs
