On my production blog, which is still running 5.0.2, something weird happened today...
Without me touching the blog/server/database/nothing at all, i noticed at once that blog's look is completely wrong! It went back to default template/skin/layout, and it forgot some of the settings (like it seemd to think it is using wrong permlink so it displayed no posts)... Also the plugins were resetted to default installation (half of them were not enabled), also nav menu was reset - my data gone... Also i was promped to enter my semiologic api key, that was there before...
Weird thing was, that all plugins were still installed, and all posts/pages still there.. Just "glue in between" was gone. When i loged in admin interface I also noticed a yellow line saying that i need to comment out DB_CHARSET and DB_COLLATE...
Fortunately I had backup (love backup plugin - but now i am setting it to send me backup db daily, not weekly), and i had restored it on third blog (development - as posts from last 5 days would be gone otherwise) and then i manually went thru settings and put them back as they were supposed to be... I activated needed plugins, changed permlink to something else, than back to my choice, chose the layout and skin, and reshuffeled all the widgets as they were...
Site is now back as it should be.
But the question remains... Why has this happened? What can i do to prevent it from happening again? Is this something resolved in 5.5 ?
Something weird just happened again!!! Now Wordpressed default template was chosen, and ofcourse all semiologic settings, widgets, presentations etc was gone.. I just loged in and changed theme back to semiologic and all is fine...
But why is this happening??? Is there a bug, or security problem? What to do?!?!
Mike thanks for your input. It sounds logical, especially since this is on VPS, and i have been having some difficulties with server's load lately... well, i am in process of moving to a dedicated server... will see whether this happens there again.
thanks, jaka
